Fall Season 2026 Plans
We will begin by returning to our conservation work at the mud brick pyramid of Tetisheri, focusing on areas of the interior corridor and chapel, while continuing to excavate sections of the ancient enclosure wall around the area. We will also set up signage and a kiosk to allow for visitors.
Our second major project will focus on the Terrace Temple built high into the desert cliffs at the western edge of the site. This incredible 400-foot long temple was first discovered in 1904 by a team from the Egypt Exploration Society, and their quick clearance of the area yielded fascinating data about this highly unusual structure. Left untouched since then, the ASP will carefully re-excavate the temple up to modern standards, after which we will be able to develop a comprehensive plan for restoration. Our goal is to eventually bring visitors up to the temple, where they will be gifted a whole new view of Abydos!

Also this season we will continue our analysis of recovered finds from our previous excavation both at the Ahmose cemetery and Tetisheri.
Of special interest will be a project led by Dr. Emily Smith-Sangster, scanning the contents of a mini ceramic coffin she uncovered in the cemetery. Look forward to her discoveries soon!
